Zemirah had been exposed to the foster care system on multiple occasions by the age of 9 before she gained a permanent court-appointed placement with her biological father.

The day that changed her life for the better was in the Summer of 2016. Due to concerns of abuse occurring in the household, Zemirah and her two younger siblings were kept after school and immediately directed over to social services and law enforcement. After several weeks in foster care, she was granted full custody by the child services courts to her biological father. For the past five years, Zemirah has blossomed into a well-versed, jovial and helpful young lady. She has maintained a 3.5 to 4.0 Grade Point Average. And now at the age of 14, she’s recently become the parent to a homeless kitten, Enzo, rescued from her grandmother’s backyard!

If you sat down to have a candid conversation with MyMy, she would tell you, “I just miss my brothers and sisters. I want to see them! But I know I’m in a better place now…” As a parent of a former forgotten baby and full-time mother, Founder of Dream North Foundation, Nychol Lyna has expressed, “To witness the tears fall from her eyes, knowing I cannot take THAT pain away, is a weakening experience”.

Yet and still, Zemirah has found her place in her new life. A brand new built home, constructed from the ground up. A bedroom of her own with a 2,000 square foot backyard to enjoy anytime, day or night. A kitten and three dogs to fill the absence and longing for her family. New friends that she cherishes most. And a stable home filled with love and growth, encouraging her to be her best self with each step she takes as she aspires to become a doctor with hopes of sharing her love and kindness with others.
